Jesse Lancaster is entering his second season as the head coach of the Morehead City Marlins for the 2018 season.
"My family and I are very excited to be back in Morehead City this summer. We thoroughly enjoy our time with the community, team and the best fans in the Coastal Plain League!"
Lancaster, a 2010 graduate of University of Mount Olive, joined the Trojan baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2012 and currently serves in the same capacity. Mount Olive has earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament in each of Lancaster's first five years on the coaching staff. Lancaster began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at ECU in 2010, where he worked with the offense and outfielders.
During his playing days, Lancaster spent two summers in the Coastal Plain League. In 2008 he played the season with the Wilson Tobs, ahead of joining Fayetteville in 2009.
As a freshman at Mount Olive, Lancaster was a starting pitcher and second baseman, before transitioning to the team's starting left fielder for his final three years. He was selected as the 2006 Conference Carolinas (then Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference) Freshman of the Year and was a three-time All-Conference selection. As a senior he was named the MVP of the 2010 Conference Carolinas Tournament and named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Finals, when the Trojans won the National Championship.
Lancaster, who resides in LaGrange, N.C., is a full-time instructor at UMO. He, his wife Heather, and bulldog Ox have enjoyed spending their summers in Morehead City for many years and are excited to become a part of such a great community.
"We have very high expectations for the 2018 Marlins and look forward to opening night! Go Marlins!"
