Marlins Announce 2018 Opening Day Roster

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – The Morehead City Marlins announced the 2018 roster comprised of players from five different levels of college baseball.

The current roster will be comprised of two freshmen, two-redshirt freshmen, eight sophomores and 3 redshirt-sophomores. Presently total of 17 upperclassmen with seven juniors, five redshirt-juniors and four seniors.

There are 12 different states and two countries represented on the roster today. Two Canadians join the squad in Brandon Marklund of British Columbia (Bryan College) and Ari Sechopoulos (College of Charleston) of Ontario. The Marlins have seven players representing seven different North Carolina schools, while also adding three student-athletes from three respective South Carolina institutions.

The Marlins roster includes 17 NCAA Division I players, representing 11 different conferences. There are 10 NCAA Division II athletes from five various conferences. While adding one NCAA Division III student-athlete from Pfeiffer University of the USA South Conference. Two players join the team from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) out of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. One National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) player from Pitt Community College in Winterville, N.C., rounds out the group.

A slew of teammates will join the Marlins thus summer. Three Griffins of Seton Hill University (PA), two Trojans from Troy University (AL) and two Braves from Bradley University (IL).

The team also has a plethora of height to begin the season with 23 of the student-athletes standing at or above 6-feet tall. Zach Keenan of Middle Tennessee State University enters the season as the tallest Marlin at 6-foot-5.
