Wilson -- The Marlins traveled on the road to take on the Wilson Tobs a day after dropping their last game to the Peninsula Pilots. Despite being out hit 9-5, the Marlins got their second win of the season by a score of 5-4. The Marlins improved their record to 2-5.
For the first three innings, both teams were locked in a scoreless tie. The Marlins struck in the fourth inning when Joe Mason (Wingate) hit a two run home run to break the tie. This was also the Marlins first home run of the year. Later in the fourth, Chandler Corley (Armstrong Atlantic) would hit a two run shot of his own to make it 4-0.
The Marlins would add to their lead in the sixth when Corley hit an RBI double straight off the wall to bring in Jackson Ware (Mercer) to make it 5-0.
In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Wilson would finally get a run when Dawnoven Smith hit an RBI single to make it 5-2. Hunter Gore would continue the momentum with a three run homer off Zach Usselman (North Carolina State) to make it 5-4. Octavio Mirabal (King University) came in relief of Usselman and walked both Tanner Johnson and Grady Lloyd. After an error by Corley to load the bases, Mirable would strikeout both A.J. King and Trevor Kelly to preserve the Marlins victory.
The Marlins have the day off but they will be on the road June 8th to take on the Wilmington Sharks. The game can be heard on the CPL WebPass.
