Fish Spring Salamanders, Marlins End Four Game Slide

Holly Springs -- The Morehead City Marlins traveled to Holly Springs on Saturday looking to end their four game losing streak. They did just that, Morehead City got their first win of the season by a score of 5-2 over the Salamanders.

In the bottom of the first, The Salamanders would strike on RBI's by Mark Collela and Cade Marlowe to make it a 2-0 game.

The Marlins would answer back in the second when Mike Warren (Armstrong State) hit an RBI single and Sammy Miller (North Carolina State) walked in a run to tie the game at two, this would chase Salamanders starter, Marcus McKoy out of the game.  Later, Chandler Corley (Armstrong State) hit an RBI single off of Ryan Ross to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.

The Salamanders had an opportunity to tie the game in the fifth, when they got runners in scoring position with nobody out. Nick Gobert (Southern Indiana) came out of the bullpen for Kip DeShields (Youngstown State) and got a fly out, strikeout, and a ground out to end the inning.

In the sixth, Holly Springs got the tying run in scoring position again, but Gobert pitched the Marlins out of the jam to keep their lead.

The combination of Ryan Ross and Michael Hope kept the Marlins off the scoreboard for six straight innings.

In the ninth inning, with Kameron Winburn pitching,The Marlins got two needed insurance runs thanks to an RBI triple by Miler to make the score 5-2.

Octavio Mirabal (King University) closed out the game to preserve the Marlins first victory of the season. The Marlins now move to 1-4, while the Salamanders dropped to 2-2.

The Marlins have the day off tomorrow, but they return to Big Rock Stadium to take on the Peninsula Pilots on June 5th. Game starts at 7:05 PM. We hope to see you rocking the rock!
