Regular Season Finale Cancelled Due To Rain

MOREHEAD CITY—Monday night's contest between the Morehead City Marlins and the Fayetteville SwampDogs has been cancelled due to rain, officially ending the 2015 regular season. The Marlins finish out the Coastal Plain League campaign 24-29 (13-14) overall, matching their win total from the entire 2013 season, posting a much-improved 15-14 record at Big Rock Stadium.

The Morehead City Marlins would first of all like to thank our players and staff for an incredible season, along with the dedication and encouragement from both the host families and MHC fans during the 2015 regular season, our sixth year competing here in Morehead City. After starting the season 3-0, the Marlins matched a clip that was set by the inaugural 2010 campaign, eventually falling two games short of fourth place for the final playoff spot in the Coastal Plain League East Division.

Christian Campbell (Rutgers) led the Marlins posting a .316 batting average this season, including a walk-off winner over the Wilmington Sharks back on June 12th. Chase Stafford (Oral Roberts) ended the season on a tear earning Big Rock Performer of the Week finishing the season hitting .290 including three homers and 10 RBI's over the final week of the season. Coastal Plain League All-Star Luke Bolka (ECU) finished second on the team with seven doubles, while fellow All-Star Stephen Wallace (Mt. Olive) led the Marlins in HR's (10) and second overall with two triples. On the mound, Luke Watts (Appalachian State) posted the best Team-ERA with an impressive 1.47 clip in six games, while the CPL leader in appearance this season, Zach Reid (Tennessee), finished with six saves in over 42 innings of work, closing at 1.70 ERA for the Marlins.

Head Coach Jason Wood completed his first season with the MHC Marlins featuring an impressive six-game winning streak around the All-Star Break (7/11-7/18) including an unblemished 3-0 record in extra-inning games. Assistant coach Courtney Spitz will enter his first season as a full-time assistant at Hesston College after earning his Masters Degree this summer, while Danny Higginbotham returns to Arkansas Tech on their coaching staff working to complete his Masters Degree this upcoming Spring.

To honor all of the great moments from our players, staff and Marlin fans over the summer here in Morehead City, we want to leave you with one final video produced by our own Director of Media, Katie Spitz, the wife of coach Courtney Spitz.

Hope you enjoy and #LetsGoMarlins
