Colton Hathcock (Memphis) has been named Morehead City's Big Rock Performer of the Week for the slate of games starting July 20th.
Colton appeared in two games last week, one relief appearance on July 24th against Wilson, and one start on July 26th against High Point-Thomasville. In his relief appearance, Hathcock pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one walk and one run while striking out two in a Marlins 7-6 win. Then, in the midst a 5-game road trip, Hathcock held High Point-Thomasville HiToms to just two runs on seven hits in the Marlins 4-2 victory. His seven innings of work also gave the short-handed Marlins bullpen a much-needed rest and his impressive 10 strikeouts set a single game high.
Hathcock's two appearances improved his record to 3-2, and lowered his ERA to 4.17 on the season. He has allowed 41 hits and 24 walks in his 36.2 innings pitched while striking out 31 batters for the Marlins. The RHP now enters his sophomore year at the University of Memphis, where he made 21 appearances for the Tigers, mostly out of the bullpen. Hathcock went 2-4 with a 3.98 ERA allowing 39 hits and 20 runs (19 earned) over 43 innings pitched and struck out 39 batters and walked 17 during the collegiate season.
