The Morehead City Marlins are proud to announce their Meet The Marlins event this Sunday afternoon at Big Rock Stadium.
Partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina, alongside the local Island Essentials, the Marlins are opening up the ballpark for kids of all ages to interact with and learn more about the fundamentals of baseball from your favorite Marlins' players.
"The Marlins are looking forward to working with the Boys and Girls Club," said general manager Catherine Roth. "We hope that the community can benefit greatly from this event and we are really excited about hosting the Boys and Girls Club for another year."
For the price of $5 dollars, anyone can join the Marlins for an afternoon of fun, entertainment and most of all the basics of baseball. The Marlins are glad to announce that all ticket donations from this weekend's event will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina.
The Marlins have both Tuesday and Wednesday as scheduled off days before returning to action Thursday night in Wilson, and their next home game on Friday versus Edenton. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 19th season, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has also had over 1,200 alumni drafted and 79 of those – including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander – make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
