Sclafani named Player of the Week


MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – The Coastal Plain League announced Tuesday that Morehead City Marlins infielder Joe Sclafani has been named Rawlings Player of the Week for Week 8, comprising the period of Jul. 21-25.

In four games that week, Sclafani had eight hits –including a triple - in 14 at bats, good for a .571 average and a .714 slugging percentage. He also walked five times during the week to compile a .684 on-base percentage in those four games. The sophomore from Dartmouth scored seven runs and drove in five.

For the season, Sclafani leads Morehead City with a .318 average and is tied for the team lead with 41 hits. In 34 games with the team, he has scored 29 runs and has walked as many times as he has struck out (18).

This is the second time that Sclafani has been given this honor, as he was also named Player of the Week for Week 5.

The Morehead City Marlins are the newest member of the Coastal Plain League. The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 14th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
