MARLINS STAY HOT, WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 9-6 VICTORY OVER SHARKS IN WILMINGTON

The Morehead City continued to play quality baseball as they earned their third straight win on Saturday night in Wilmington, N.C. Regulations wasn’t enough as the Marlins needed 10 innings to put away the Sharks after the Sharks came from behind to tie the ballgame at 6-6-6 in the eighth inning.

The Marlins struck first in the ballgame in third highlighted by RBI’s off the bats of Dylan Brown and Sam Ott. However, the Sharks came to get two more in the home half of the first. Morehead City extended its lead to 6-2 with a three-run third inning, while the Sharks played comeback kids again in the seventh as they tied the game at 6-6.

However, it was the Marlins who would emerge victorious with a three-run top half of the tenth. Hayden Jones roped the RBI single, which proved to be the game winner, while Sam Ott plated two runners later in the inning. Brandon Saunders picked up the win for the Marlins with a scoreless home half of the tenth.

The Marlins are off on Sunday and then conclude the 2013 season with a home contest against the Wilmington Sharks on Monday August 5. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 57 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
