The Edenton Steamers have had the Marlins number all season long. Edenton proved it by defeating Morehead City for the seventh time this season, this time by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night in Morehead City, N.C.
Despite ultimately losing the ballgame the Marlins struck first with one run in the home half of the first inning. Jacob Hoyle gave the Marlins the lead with an RBI single, allowing Dylan Brown to score after a leadoff single to start the game.
The Steamers tied the ballgame back in the top half of the fifth, and then took the lead on a wild pitch in the sixth. Edenton added an insurance run on an Alex Delgado RBI single in the eighth solidifying the 3-1 victory for the Steamers.
Adam Bray was terrific on the bump for the Steamers as he picked up his fourth win of the season. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out seven and walked just one. Jerry Vasto was solid on the mound for the Marlins earning a no decision after five innings of one run baseball. Kyle Weary, despite four strong innings in relief, suffered the loss. Jake McCoy picked up his tenth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Marlins fell to 21-29 with the loss, while the Steamers improved to 26-10. The Marlins travel to Peninsula tomorrow for a showdown with the Pilots at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, V.A. The club returns home for a doubleheader on Friday night against the Fayetteville SwampDogs. First pitch from Big Rock Stadium on August 2 is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
