Fuchs Leads Marlins Past Sharks with 6-0 Win

Morehead City, N.C. – Ben Fuchs has been as solid as any pitcher in the Coastal Plain League this season and he provided even more evidence in a 6-0 win over the Wilmington Sharks at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City, N.C. The offense did its job as well taking the Sharks for six runs on seven hits.

The Marlins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning on a RBI triple off the bat of Dylan Brown. He later scored when Ryan Cranmer reached on an error by Dylan Bosheers at shortstop.

Morehead City picked up two more runs in the sixth when Brown scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Hayden Jones. Sam Ott then gave the Marlins their second run of the inning with an RBI double to left field, however, Jones was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Brad Haynal busted out of a slump with a two-run home run way over the left-centerfield fence to give Morehead City two insurance runs, making it a 6-0 ballgame. The Sharks failed to climb any closer as the Marlins hung on for the victory.

Fuchs picked up his third win of the season, moving to 3-0 on the season. He tossed seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits and two walks, while striking out four. Jhon Peralta came on to close the door for the Marlins with two shutout innings and two strikeouts in his first appearance with Morehead City this season.

With the win, the Marlins improve to 1-0 in the second half, while the Sharks fall to 0-1. Morehead City travels to High Point – Thomasville tomorrow evening and then to Martinsville on Friday. The team returns home to Big Rock Stadium on Saturday night for a showdown with the Edenton Steamers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
