Fayetteville, N.C. – The Morehead City Marlins led by as many as 5-0 heading into the bottom half of the third inning. However, the Fayetteville SwampDogs had other plans for the ballgame as they took down the Marlins by a final score of 14-7
Hayden Jones, Dalton Britt and Jacob Hoyle led the Marlins to their five runs in the second and third innings. However, the SwampDogs offense exploded in the home half of the third for six runs, added two more in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to down the Marlins by a score of 14-7.
Justin Taylor struggled on the mound for the Marlins as he allowed eight runs, three of which were earned. He also walked three and struck out one. Ethan Striz earned the win for the SwampDogs.
The Marlins return home to Big Rock Stadium on Thursday night at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City, N.C. as they host the Wilson Tobs. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
