Marlins Still Searching for Host Families for 2012 Season

Morehead City, N.C. – The Morehead City Marlins Baseball Team is currently searching for host families for the 2012 season. The Marlins are ideally looking for host families in Morehead City, Newport, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, and Pine Knoll Shores for their players, coaches, or interns.

Host families play an important role in each player’s summer experience by providing them with a comfortable setting. During a player’s summer league experience, they are in a very different atmosphere by being away from their family and friends. The Marlins encourage host families to help their respective player(s) become situated with their new environment in the county. This is also a great opportunity for your community to help further the development of these college athletes as baseball players and as people.

All host families are required to provide adequate housing for their respective player(s) during the summer season. Most players are expected to arrive by late May, but some may be arriving at a later date due to postseason play. There may be conditional players placed until regular contracted players arrive. The Marlins season, including playoffs, will conclude no later than August 15.

This is a unique experience for host families that have children, as players will serve as influential role models. The Marlins expect and require all players to be respectful to their family as well as the rules of the household and each family to be considerate of their player and their grueling baseball schedule. The Marlins recruit each player based upon strict criteria which includes character and talent.

All host families will receive season tickets to all 30 regular season home games including all home playoff games. As the newest member of the Coastal Plain League, the Marlins provide a family-fun atmosphere and each player would love to see the support of their respective host family in the grandstand. Many host families from the previous two years have established close relationships with their former player(s). This friendship can last for a number of years, well after the player’s career. In addition to the player and host parent relationship, many host families have become friends with other host families in the program.

All host parents will be matched as best as possible with their player. If you would like to be a member of the Marlins family by taking part in the program or have any questions or concerns, please contact our office immediately at (252) 269-9767.

The Morehead City Marlins are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. For Marlins ticket information, please visit
