Marlins Solidify Outfield

Morehead City, N.C. – The Morehead City Marlins Baseball Team announced today the signings of outfielders Jake Luce from Elon University and Austin Wulf from Tennessee Tech University.

Originally hailing from Fairview,TX Jake Luce has started six of seven games for the Elon Phoenix this spring. In those starts Luce has amassed seven hits already on the season, for a .368 average. He has collected three walks and four RBI to begin the long year. A current teammate of Minnesota Twins draftee and former Marlins closer Thomas Girdwood, Luce will provide speed and exceptional handling of the bat at the top of the order. Luce participated in the Texas Collegiate League with the McKinney Marshals in the summer of 2009.

A native of Beaver Falls, PA, Austin Wulf, has been a two-year starter for Tennessee Tech University and will also take his talents to Big Rock Stadium this upcoming summer. Wulf currently shares the outfield with teammate and former Marlins centerfielder and St. Louis Cardinals draftee Chad Oberacker. Wulf will be another sparkplug in the outfield and at the plate for the Marlins. Last season, Wulf made his mark as a freshman compiling 36 runs, 33 RBI, with a .340 batting average. This spring campaign, Wulf has seven hits in seven totals starts for the Golden Eagles. Wulf also competed in the Prospect Collegiate League last year with the Butler BlueSox.

“Both Jake and Austin will be table-setters for us this season as they are very similar players”, said Marlins Manager Jay Bergman. “They have top of the lineup capabilities with speed and are great on-base guys as well. Both will be incredibly exciting players for our team in the summer.”
